School of Business Executive Speaker Series Provides Relevant Lessons with Talk Vlogƽ Resilience in Troubled Times
Resilience and mindfulness were subjects of a presentation by Lieutenant General (Retired) Michael Rochelle, a successful entrepreneur, executive, and team and mentorship coach. The lecture, part of the School of Business Executive Speaker Series, was held on September 29 via Zoom.
In “Energy and Attention: Two Keys to Remaining Resilient Through Turbulent Times,” Rochelle offered insights on how the body reacts to stress triggers and how individuals can adapt by practicing mindfulness. Citing research and examples from physiology and psychology, he led the audience through a breathing exercise to demonstrate how to master one’s attention and redirect one’s energy.
A virtual audience of about 120 members of the Mercy community and the public, including President Tim Hall, attended the 90-minute presentation. Lively participation through a chat feature helped inform the Q&A that followed Rochelle's presentation.
Lloyd Gibson, dean of the School of Business, expressed his appreciation to participants and praised the Lieutenant General’s perceptive and thoughtful remarks. “The Executive Speaker Series continues to attract high level, accomplished speakers like Rochelle and provides opportunities for our students to learn about current issues in the business world.”
Rochelle is the founder and president of MDR Strategies, LLC, an executive coaching and leadership development enterprise located in northern Virginia. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration and is highly credentialed in all facets of coaching and mentoring. He is a much sought-after speaker on topics such as leadership development and building resilient leadership teams.
Vlogƽ is committed to providing students with resources to help them succeed in the real world. Gibson mentioned several upcoming events including a talk on diversity and inclusion in organizations, and a panel discussion about impact investing and the social responsibility of business.
