Dear Students,
After thoughtful deliberation, the College has finalized a new grading option that will allow students to elect into a Credit Earned /No Credit Earned (CE/NE) grading process. These grading modifications are in place to encourage you to continue your academic studies. All students should be aware that although CE/NE grading is an option for most courses this spring, it may not be the best choice for everyone. We understand this is a stressful time and we encourage you to seek advisement from their faculty and PACT mentor on implications within their major.
What you need to know about the CE/NE grading option:
- Students must elect into this new grading option for each class through Mercy Connect starting on Monday, April 20, 2020. The deadline to complete this request is Thursday, May 7, 2020, 5 p.m.
- If a student elects in, ‘CE’ is the equivalent of a passing letter grade (A, B, C, or D) and credit for the class being awarded, while ‘NC’ is the equivalent a failing grade (F) and no credit is awarded. Transcripts will include the CE/NE mark and not a letter grade.
- If a student does not elect the CE/NE option, a letter grade will be included in the semester and general GPA.
- Once the request is processed, the CE/NE grading option will be permanently posted to the student’s transcript and cannot be changed. All final grades for spring terms are expected from the faculty by May 18, 2020.
- For eligible spring 2020 term courses (all terms except R, B, E1 and E2), the deadline to withdraw from a course has been extended to May 13, 2020.
In addition, the federal government signed into law on March 27 the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that provides economic relief provisions for students including continuation of federal work study payments, relief related to Pell grants and federal loans for students who withdraw, and relief for students with federal loans in repayment.
