Mercy's Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment Featured on BronxNet, Promotes Center for New Resources - Adult Education
On August 5, 2019 Dr. Cecil Wright, ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ’s Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment, was featured on to announce Mercy’s exciting new program: the Center for New Resources - Adult Education. In the interview, Wright describes how the unique program gives adults the opportunity to fulfill their dreams of receiving their college degrees. The Center accommodates for the challenges working adults face when trying to obtain their bachelor’s and welcomes individuals no matter their backgrounds or current circumstances. To encourage degree completion, mentors are provided to help students reacclimate. Also, classes are offered in the evening and some weekends to accommodate a working professional’s schedule. What makes this program even more accessible is that Mercy has made a special effort to price credits at the same rate State University of New York (SUNY) students pay.
In order to be considered for enrollment, students must be 21 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and take a brief exam. A practice test is available for students who would like extra help to prepare for the exam. There are 47 seats available for this year’s Center for New Resources - Adult Education program.
This program is of particular importance to Wright as he has made it a goal in his career to pay it forward and give working adults the same chance he had to pursue higher education. After being encouraged by a colleague, Wright went from working at a fast food restaurant and driving cabs at night to eventually obtaining his Ph.D. He is proud that Mercy is providing a clear pathway for adults who have the heart and drive to go back to school and achieve the same milestones he did.
