A novel study conducted by Vlogƽ Professor Rossi Hassad on curricular needs and priorities for Big Data analytics was recently published as an invited paper in an authoritative outlet for publications on statistics education.

Results of the study, “Perspectives on Curricular Priorities for Big Data Analytics: A Qualitative Study of Educators and Practitioners,” provide a framework for informing educators about curricular reform and development for Big Data analytics. It is Hassad’s aim that educators who utilize his framework in their instruction enable students to acquire necessary competencies and skills for careers in the 21st century.

In his research, Hassad – whose expertise spans statistics education, epidemiology, research methods and mental health – surveyed statistics and data science educators including recognized experts. “This study offers insight into how educators and practitioners perceive and understand the challenges of Big Data, and how such information is necessary in order to meaningfully engage educators in developing an effective curriculum,” explained Rossi.
