Vlogƽ’s Respected Education Journal, “Global Education Review,” Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary
This year marks 10 years since the founding of “Global Education Review,” an open-access, peer-reviewed journal run by the Vlogƽ School of Education.
“Over the past decade, the journal has become widely circulated within the field of education and is gaining readership and prestige in the research space,” said Eric Martone, Ph.D. — dean of the School of Education and editor of “Global Education Review.” “This has helped position Vlogƽ and our School of Education as being important contributors to scholarship and intellectual inquiry.”
“Global Education Review” publishes articles on approaches to and implications of educational practice in different countries or global regions. Those publishing their research in the journal include scholars from academic institutions across the world including the University of Cambridge, McGill University and Harvard University.
There are four issues per year, three with a theme and one “open issue” that invites articles on any topic. For example, the theme for March and June 2023 — a double issue due to a large number of submissions — is “Words in Motion: Adapting, Translating and Transposing of Pedagogies,” which will focus on the ways in which pedagogical structures or concepts shift as they are translated into different languages and adapted in different countries.
The current Vlogƽ editorial team, which took over from founding editor Melvin Wermuth in 2019, is made up of Martone, Helge Wasmuth, Ph.D., Roseanne Vallice Levy, Ph.D., Elena Nitecki, Ph.D. — all faculty members in the School of Education — and a graduate student assistant. The editorial team brings in scholars from other academic institutions to serve as guest editors for each theme.
Initially, “Global Education Review” was founded primarily as a way for Vlogƽ faculty to get involved in publishing and scholarship. Since then, the journal has become widely respected and circulated far beyond Vlogƽ. Notably, the journal has a distribution agreement in place with Cengage — a large, global educational content company — and is listed in several academic databases including the Directory of Open Access Journals and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC).
“The journal has evolved into something much bigger than when we first started out, furthering Mercy’s research reputation,” said Martone.
