At its 2019 Commencement ceremony for the School of Business on Monday, May 20, ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ conferred a bachelor’s degree in accounting to the late Louis James Balancio II. Louis’ family accepted the degree on his behalf.
In February 1994, Louis Balancio was a third-year student at ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ, majoring in accounting, when he was murdered. Following his tragic death, the Louis Balancio Scholarship Fund (LBSF) was created to help teach people, especially the young, how to resolve conflicts in an intelligent and non-violent manner.
For 18 years, the LBSF and ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ have co-sponsored annual mediation workshops to prepare participants to become New York State Community Mediators. To date, 480 individuals have successfully completed the training and become certified by New York State.
