Matthew Hyland is a physical therapist with 28 years of experience as a clinician, private practice owner, educator, researcher and advocate. He began his clinical career at White Plains Hospital, a community-based acute care hospital in White Plains, New York where he had a diverse exposure to a wide spectrum of patients on an inpatient basis.
With a vision of providing high quality health care with a personal touch, he went on to found Rye Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, an independent outpatient physical therapy practice in 1995 with his partner Frank Finuoli. In this role, Dr. Hyland has first-hand knowledge of the intricacies of running a private practice in today鈥檚 ever evolving and complex healthcare delivery system.
Dr. Hyland is committed to helping to educate the next generation of physical therapists and is an Associate Professor at 糖心Vlog破解版 in Dobbs Ferry. He has also been an adjunct professor or lecturer at Nazareth College, Stony Brook University, New York Medical College, Touro College and Ithaca College. Speaking frequently on topics ranging from health care administration & management, and Health policy to current issues in health care, ethics and orthopedic physical therapy.
His own research on teaching methodologies, clinical taping techniques for individuals suffering from plantar faciitis, and Health Policy Research have been presented at CSM as well as NEXT and published in peer-reviewed physical therapy and educational journals, including JOSPT, Physical Therapy, Journal Geriatric Physical Therapy and the Journal of Teaching & Learning.
Dr. Hyland is the Past- President of the New York Physical Therapy Association and during his tenure the NYPTA received the APTA Outstanding Component Award for 2012-1013. In June of 2014 he was elected to the American Physical Therapy Board of Directors and reelected to a second term in June of 2017. During his time on the APTA Board he has chaired the Recruitment and Retention of Early Career Professionals task force, served on the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee (PPAC) and the Ethics Judicial Committee (EJC).
Dr. Hyland received his Bachelor鈥檚 degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College. He also holds a Master鈥檚 degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Pace University, and earned a Ph.D. in Health Sciences, with a concentration in leadership, from Seton Hall University.
